Program Terms and Conditions

SPC is a membership program, which is operated by Student Price Card Limited organized under the laws of Ontario ("SPC”).

SPC is solely responsible for conducting and administering the Program. By Enrolling in the Program in connection with your membership account ("Account"), you agree that you have read and understand these Terms and Conditions and are bound by all of them, as may be changed from time to time, and you consent to SPC’s collection and use and disclosure of your personal information in accordance with the SPC Privacy Policy (at spccard.ca/privacy-policy) as may be amended from time to time and incorporated herein by reference. Further, you acknowledge and accept these Terms and Conditions as a condition of continued membership. SPC specifically reserves the right to amend, alter, withdraw or terminate the Program, any Program benefit or award/reward, including but not limited to any discount available or potentially available, or these Terms and Conditions either with or without notice. Any such changes may affect the availability and specifics of benefits previously available or potentially available under deals. Enrolment, membership and all related benefits of the Program and deals are offered in the sole discretion of SPC.

These Terms and Conditions constitute the entire agreement between you and SPC regarding your participation in the Program and the use of SPC benefits, your entitlement to redeem discounts and your entitlement to any other benefits of the Program, and supersede all previous versions. Except as expressly contained in these Terms and Conditions, there are no conditions, representations, warranties, express or implied, statutory or otherwise. When you deal with SPC or its Partners over the Internet, you consent to the formation of contractual relations through electronic communications. SPC has the final authority as to the interpretation of these Terms and Conditions and as to any other questions or disputes regarding the Program and SPC Rewards.

The SPC membership is valid for students in Canada only. This membership must be activated in the SPC app in order to be valid and used for discounts and benefits in-store and online at participating partners. In-store offers are valid at participating locations in Canada only. Offer details and a full list of participating partners in-store and online may be found in the SPC app or by visiting spccard.ca . Offers are subject to change without notice, restrictions may apply and/or offers may vary. Usage may be restricted when used with any other offer, clearance, online/in-store promotion and/or retail loyalty program. Offers cannot be used towards the purchase of gift cards or certificates of monetary value. Offers are for SPC members only; valid student ID may be required (except for VIP and CIBC members) and promo code may be required when making a purchase. The SPC membership is NON-REFUNDABLE.

Participation in the Program

  1.   Membership is limited to natural persons only, who are enrolled in a recognized Canadian educational institution and are able to provide a valid piece of student identification (if over 16 years of age; no corporation, trust, partnership or other entity may hold membership in the SPC Program);
  2.   An SPC member ("Member") must enroll individually in his/her full legal name and such person may have only one open Account at any given time;
  3.   A Member may only receive benefits in one Account. Membership is solely for the benefit of the individual; therefore, it must be maintained in the name of an individual; any duplicate accounts can be removed at the sole discretion of SPC;
  4.   Rewards and any entitlement to redemption thereof are personal and cannot be assigned, traded, or otherwise transferred without the prior written consent of SPC or otherwise in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of the SPC Program, as may be amended from time to time. Any assignment or transfer in violation of these rules will be void and may, at the sole discretion of SPC, result in the loss of membership or the cancellation of the affected Rewards redemption entitlement, as the case may be;
  5.   To be eligible to redeem SPC benefits, an individual must be an SPC member and/or be a customer of an associated Partner in SPC. This SPC membership will be associated with one Account number.
  6.   SPC assumes no liability whatsoever, including without limitation, liability for any expense, loss, cost, injury, damage, accident or any other matter or thing whatsoever, however suffered or caused (including compensatory, incidental, indirect, special, punitive, consequential or exemplary damages or damages for loss of income or profits), directly or indirectly arising out of or related to the Program or by reason of the termination of or amendment to the Program in whole or in part, any failure by Partners of SPC to honour any rewards, offers of promotions by such parties, or the addition or deletion of reward partners or other features with or without notice;
  7.   SPC membership and participation are privileges which can be revoked by SPC in its sole discretion at any time and without compensation for any reason including without limitation, for abuse or breach by a Member of any of the Terms and Conditions of the Program or any other actions deemed by SPC, acting in its sole discretion, to be contrary to SPC, the SPC Program, or the interests of its Members or reward partners;
  8.   SPC shall be under no obligation to continue the Program, or to provide any notice of its termination;
  9.   Each Member shall be responsible for advising SPC of any change of their name, mailing address, e-mail address or any other required membership Enrolment data. Neither SPC nor its Partners shall be liable for misdirected communications such as mail or e-mail or any consequences thereof;
  10.   Neither SPC nor its Partners shall be responsible for any failure of the SPC website or for any problems or technical malfunction of a telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email, online or Internet entry. In addition, neither SPC nor its Partners shall be responsible due to technical problems, traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to any computer or property related to or resulting from participating in or downloading any material relating to the Program. SPC reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel or suspend the Program should a virus, bug or any other cause beyond the reasonable control of SPC corrupt the security or proper administration of the Program. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of the Program is a violation of criminal and civil laws, and should such an attempt be made, SPC reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution; and

Membership Enrolment

  1.   To participate in SPC benefits, a Member must have applied for, been granted and possess a Digital SPC membership;
  2.   To enroll, you must have a valid Canadian address, a valid e-mail address and be a minimum of 13 years of age at the time of enrolment, or provide proof of consent from a Parent or Guardian, which consent SPC reserves the right to request;
  3.   To become a Member, simply create an account online or through the SPC app accurately and completely;
  4.   Enrolment also requires the creation of a password or a personal identification number ("Password") which is required to access your Account. Certain password creation rules may apply and SPC reserves the right to change password creation rules to adhere to the strongest privacy and security standards in place. Anyone who knows your Password and Account number will have full access to your Account. You are responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your Password, for all activities that occur using your Password and for notifying SPC of any unauthorized use of your Password. SPC is not responsible in any way for any loss arising from unauthorized use of your Password or your failure to comply with these provisions;
  5.   By Enrolling in the SPC Program, you consent to receive SPC communications as well as other communications containing special offers about the SPC Program and its rewards and services, which communications may incur data charges if accessed or received via a mobile device.
  6.   SPC does not collect personal information on its website from individuals it actually knows to be under 13 years of age. The Program is not marketed to or directed towards children under 13 years of age. SPC requests that website visitors under 13 years of age not disclose or provide any personal information. If SPC discovers such information, it will delete the child’s personal information from its records. If for any reason SPC believes a user may be under the age of 13, it reserves the right to request proof of age of such user. If such proof is not provided, or if it is discovered the user is under the age of 13, all personal information regarding that individual shall be deleted from the SPC system and SPC reserves the right to limit and/or ban the user from membership in the loyalty program;
  7.   Note to Parents. SPC encourages parents to supervise their children’s Internet activities and to consider using parental control tools available from online services and software manufacturers that help provide a child-friendly online environment. These tools can also keep children from disclosing online their name, address and other personal information without parental consent.
  8.   Enrolment at the SPC website or app is subject to verification and will be deemed invalid if the information is not true and/or complete.

Membership Activation

SPC Memberships are valid exactly one year from the date you activate your Membership online or through the SPC App. SPC memberships can only be activated online or through the app, activation at participating retailers is not available. If you purchase your membership from a participating retailer, you will need to activate your membership to begin accessing membership benefits. Yearly Membership Subscription

By signing up for a yearly membership subscription, you agreed that your subscription will be automatically renewed and, unless you cancel your subscription, you authorized us to charge your payment method for the renewal term. You agree that we can change the terms of the subscription with advance notice to you and an opportunity for you to cancel. The period of auto-renewal will be the same as your initial subscription period unless otherwise disclosed to you. The renewal rate will be no more than the rate for the immediately prior subscription period, excluding any promotional and discount pricing, unless we notify you of a rate change prior to your auto-renewal, in which case you will have the right to cancel the renewal of your subscription.

Cancellation of Membership

You can cancel your SPC Membership services at any time. More information on how to cancel can be found here. Once you have cancelled your SPC Membership and received confirmation, no other changes can be made to your account. The cancellation of a SPC Membership will go into effect at the end of your current billing cycle, and you will have the same level of access to Membership services through the remainder of such billing cycle. For example, if you are billed on a yearly basis and cancel during a given month, you will be charged for the entirety of that year and maintain access to the membership services through the end of that year.

Termination of Membership

By joining the SPC or SPC+ program you agree to use the SPC service, including all features and functionalities associated therewith, in accordance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations, or other restrictions on use of the service or content therein, which SPC reserves the right to change or revise at any time.

Account sharing is strictly prohibited on the SPC platform. Your username and password are personal to you and may not be used by anyone else. By taking part in the SPC and/or SPC+ program, you agree that you, the user, will keep your username and password secret and will inform us in the event that you become aware that it is no longer confidential, is being used by an unauthorized person or is in breach of this Agreement. SPC will not be responsible for any losses arising from the unauthorized use of your SPC or SPC+ membership.

Your account may not be registered to more than 2 devices or your account may be suspended. Sharing a device which is logged in to your account also constitutes a breach of this Agreement, and store employees may request photo ID at any time to verify the identification of the member.

You also agree to not do anything which would assist anyone who is not a registered user to gain access to any part of the SPC/SPC+ membership. If, for any reason, we believe that you have not complied with any of these terms and conditions, we may, at our discretion, deactivate your membership and terminate access to the SPC/SPC+ platform immediately, and without giving you any advanced notice and terminate your account.

There are no refunds for termination or cancellation of your SPC Membership. If you no longer wish to subscribe to a SPC Membership, it is your responsibility to cancel your SPC Membership in due time, regardless of whether or not you actively use the Membership.

Membership Fee Changes

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable laws, we may change the price for a SPC Membership at any time. We will give you reasonable notice of any such pricing changes by posting the new prices through the applicable Membership app and website and/or by sending you an email notification. If you do not wish to pay the new prices, you can cancel the applicable Membership prior to the change going into effect.

Billing Information

Should you register for a yearly membership, we automatically bill your Payment Method each year, on the calendar day corresponding to the commencement of your paid membership (which will be set out on the page of the SPC website or app on which you made your order). Our billing services may be provided by Braintree, and payments for your SPC Membership may appear on a user’s bill as being charged to Braintree, or to another related vendor we use for this purpose. As used in these Terms of Use, "billing" shall indicate a charge, debit or other payment collection, as applicable, against your Payment Method.

Payment Method

To use SPC membership services you must provide us with a Payment Method. You authorize us to charge any Payment Method associated with your account in case your primary Payment Method is declined or no longer available to us for payment of your Membership fee. You remain responsible for any uncollected amounts. If a payment is not successfully settled, due to expiration, insufficient funds, or otherwise, and you do not cancel your account, we may suspend your access to the membership until we have successfully charged a valid Payment Method. For some Payment Methods, the issuer may charge you certain fees, such as foreign transaction fees or other fees relating to the processing of your Payment Method. Local tax charges may vary depending on the Payment Method used. Check with your Payment Method service provider for details.

Apple- In App Purchase- Terms of Use

Apple Subscription Purchase

SPC offers users the ability to purchase memberships through Apple Subscription. If you choose to make a purchase through Apple, you will be prompted to confirm your purchase with the applicable payment provider, and your method of payment will be charged for the in app purchase at the prices displayed to you for the service(s) you've selected as well as any sales or similar taxes that may be imposed on your payments, and you authorize SPC or the third party account, as applicable, to charge you. If you purchase an auto-recurring periodic subscription through an in-app purchase, your Payment Method will continue to be billed for the subscription until you cancel. After your initial subscription commitment period, and again after any subsequent subscription period, your subscription will automatically continue for an additional equivalent period, at the price you agreed to when subscribing.

Apple Subscription Termination

You may terminate your account at any time, for any reason. For memberships purchased through Apple Subscription, you will need to manage in app purchases through your iTunes account to avoid additional billing. SPC may terminate your Apple Subscription at any time without notice if it believes that you have violated our terms of use. Upon such termination, you will not be entitled to any refund for purchases.

Apple Subscription Auto-Renewal

Apple Subscriptions are automatically renewed until you terminate or cancel the subscription. When you purchase a subscription, your Payment Method will continue to be billed annually in advance within 24 hours of the date of the initial purchase at the price you agreed to when initially subscribing. Your card payment information will be stored and subsequently used for the automatic card payments in accordance with the Agreement.

Apple Subscription Refunds

Generally, all charges for purchases are non-refundable, and there are no refunds or credits for partially used memberships. We may make an exception if a refund for a subscription offering is requested within 24 hours of the transaction date, or if the laws applicable in your jurisdiction provide for refunds. If you subscribed using your Apple ID, refunds are handled by Apple, not SPC. To request a refund, go to iTunes, click on your Apple ID, select "Purchase history", find the transaction and hit "Report Problem". You can also submit a request at https://getsupport.apple.com

Earning Rewards

  1.   From time to time, SPC may invite reward partners to work with SPC to provide more benefits and opportunities to Members. SPC may also advertise offers for which Members may earn additional benefits;
  2.   Members must present their personal valid SPC membership and, when requested, a valid Student ID to receive benefit from discounts.
  3.   Any unauthorized reproduction of an SPC membership may lead to a deduction of or loss of all eligibility to redeem Rewards that may be associated with such Account, exclusion from the Program and may have additional legal consequences, all in the sole discretion of SPC;
  4.   SPC or a Partner may refuse to record or honour Rewards redemption eligibility associated with your Account, or if already recorded, may cancel such eligibility, if SPC cannot confirm via SPC systems, transaction receipts and other information that such eligibility was properly issued or obtained. Any Rewards, offers or promotions not honoured by Partners are the sole responsibility of such Partners and not SPC; and
  5.   If you believe that any Account statement reflecting your eligibility for Rewards is in error, you must contact Customer Service (1-800-267-9730) within 60 days of the date of the Account statement or such statement will be deemed correct, except for excess Rewards eligibility improperly noted in your Account. SPC may require that Members submit documentation to support your claim.

Returns and/or Exchanges

In the event of a return and/or exchange of any purchase for which SPC benefit was given, your level of benefit will be adjusted downward by an amount equivalent to any previous upward adjustment associated with the original transaction.

Redemption and Benefits

  1.   Only a Member may redeem deals and to do so must present: his or her SPC membership, which must be valid, as well as a valid piece of identification issued by a recognized Canadian educational institution when requested;
  2.   Your Account number and Password will be required for any available automated or online benefits.
  3.   You may be required to provide proof of and/or authentication of your identity when using your SPC membership, to protect the integrity of your Account and to verify your Member status; 
  4.   SPC may include or remove the Program’s additional reward partners in its sole discretion.

SPC+ Program

SPC+ is a program created by SPC for CIBC Student and Youth clients with an eligible CIBC product or service. Offers made available through SPC+ have no cash value, and are subject to availability and offer conditions, as may be indicated. Subject to change without notice. SPC and its affiliates will not be liable to you or any third party for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, economic or punitive damages or any loss that results from or relates directly or indirectly to any aspect of SPC+, the content of the offers, a third party advertiser's refusal or failure to honour an offer, your participation in SPC+, any products, services, information or other material purchased or obtained by you in connection with SPC+, including but not limited to: (i) the use, disclosure, display or maintenance of your personal location information, (ii) the content of offers from any third party advertiser, (iii) the cost of procurement of goods and services resulting from any participating advertiser offer made available through SPC+, and/or (iv) any other matter relating directly or indirectly to SPC+. SPC may change these Terms and Conditions and/or any aspect of the SPC+ program without notice. SPC may add, delete or change SPC+ partners/advertisers, modify any offers provided. SPC+ offers are valid at participating partners in Canada. Please check offer details for expiry and restrictions that may apply. Offers are subject to change without notice, restriction application and/or offers may vary. Usage may be restricted when used with any other offer, clearance, online promotion and/or retail loyalty program. This cannot be used towards purchase of gift cards or certificates of monetary value. Offers are for SPC+ members only; valid student ID and promo code may be required when making a purchase.

Discount, Coupon or Gift Codes

If you have received a discount, coupon or gift code to an SPC membership, the following terms and conditions apply in addition to the terms and conditions of the specific code. To redeem a discount or coupon code, log in to the applicable Service and enter the applicable code to take advantage of the relevant promotion. All discounts, gift and coupon codes can only be applied when purchasing a one-year SPC membership, and cannot be applied to existing memberships. Discount, coupon and gift codes cannot be combined with any other cash-off price, sales, promotion or coupon, and cannot be exchanged, refunded, replaced or redeemed for cash or payment of memberships. A payment method is required to redeem a discount or coupon code. It is your own responsibility to use a discount, coupon or gift code before it expires, and expired codes cannot be refunded or extended. It is also your responsibility to terminate the membership before the end of a discounted period if you do not want to continue with a SPC membership at the regular price. SPC reserves the right to cancel discounts and coupon promotions at any time.

SheerID Student Verification Requirement

Some SPC partners may require additional student verification through SheerID to access specific offers and discounts. This verification is in place to ensure eligibility for the promotional benefits provided by these partners. While most SPC offers can be accessed using your SPC membership, certain offers will redirect you to the SheerID platform to verify your student status.

Verification Process

If a partner requires SheerID verification, the following steps will occur:

  1. Redirect to SheerID: When attempting to redeem an applicable offer, you will be redirected from the SPC platform to the SheerID verification system.
  2. Provide Verification Information: You will be asked to provide the following information to verify your student status:
    • Full name
    • School name
    • Email address associated with your educational institution (e.g., .edu or .ca domain email address)
    • Proof of enrollment, which may include:
      • A student ID card (must display your name, school, and current academic year)
      • A class schedule or transcript showing your name and school
      • A tuition receipt or enrollment confirmation letter
  3. Verification Review: SheerID will review the submitted information. The review process is typically instant but may take up to 48 hours if manual verification is required.
  4. Verification Result: Upon successful verification, you will be redirected back to the SPC platform or the partner’s site to complete your purchase or redeem the offer. If verification is unsuccessful, you may be provided with additional options to retry or contact SheerID support for assistance.

Additional Verification

  • If required, an image or scan of the document may need to be uploaded.
  • For international students, equivalent documents proving enrollment might be needed, such as:
    • Student visa
    • Acceptance letter from the institution
    • Enrollment confirmation in local language and English.

Important Notes

  • Data Privacy: SheerID operates independently from SPC, and any information provided during the verification process is subject to SheerID’s privacy policy. We encourage you to review their terms and policies when submitting your information.
  • Verification Validity: Once verified, your eligibility may be valid for a limited period (e.g., 30 days), after which re-verification may be required to access applicable offers.
  • No Guarantee of Eligibility: Submitting your information to SheerID does not guarantee approval, as verification decisions are made solely by SheerID.

Commercial Terms

Prohibited Commercial Use: Commercial use of your SPC membership is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, the following activities:

a. Using your SPC membership to obtain additional discounts for the purpose of resale or profit.

b. Sharing your SPC membership with others for commercial gain.

c. Using your SPC membership to purchase items or services with the intent to resell them.

Termination of Membership: SPC reserves the right to terminate or suspend a member's account without prior notice if we have reasonable grounds to believe that the member has engaged in prohibited commercial use of their membership.

Determination of Prohibited Use: SPC may use a variety of methods and criteria to determine prohibited commercial use, including, but not limited to, monitoring account activity, transaction patterns, and reviewing reports from partners or other members. The specifics of how SPC determines such use may not be disclosed to members to protect the integrity of our program.

Consequences of Termination: If your SPC membership is terminated or suspended due to prohibited commercial use, you will forfeit any remaining membership benefits, including access to discounts and offers. In addition, any fees paid for the membership will not be refunded.

Legal Action: SPC reserves the right to take legal action against individuals or entities engaged in unauthorized commercial use of the membership, seeking damages, and injunctive relief.

Amendment of Policy: SPC reserves the right to amend or modify this policy at any time, and such changes will be effective upon posting. Members are responsible for regularly reviewing this policy for updates.

By becoming an SPC member, you acknowledge and agree to comply with this policy regarding commercial use of your membership.

Electronic Messages Terms

This section only applies to Student Price Card Limited members that have explicitly given Student Price Card Limited consent to receive electronic messages from Student Price Card Limited and its partners. By clicking the checkbox, the Student Price Card Limited member consents to receiving electronic messages from Student Price Card Limited and its partners. Standard text and data rates may apply. Consent can be withdrawn at any time by unchecking the “receive emails” checkbox in your profile at spccard.ca or by clicking the unsubscribe button at the bottom of our promotional emails.
